Belladonna Strings is a cinematic string project by a Swedish composer and audio engineer. Raised in a small town in Småland, south of Sweden, surrounded by forests, she grew up with a strong connection to nature, and music. At home, Arabic music was often playing, a link to her family’s Iraqi roots, and early on she was drawn to a wide range of genres, all from film scores and classical music to rock and metal.
Her writing blends those different worlds: traditional string arrangements shaped by a love of storytelling, tension and inspiration from her upbringing.
The name comes from Atropa belladonna, a poisonous plant once prized for its beauty and feared for its danger. In Renaissance Italy, women used it to dilate their pupils, chasing an ideal of beauty that came with real risk. That balance, between elegance and something more dangerous, runs through everything Belladonna Strings creates.
